From September 16 to 24, 2023, the Kidical Mass action days will take place for the sixth time. The focus is on the weekend of the 23rd to 24th of September.
From London to Lisbon to Berlin and Bad Endorf, young and old are demanding: Safe streets for children – now! We want all children and young people to be able to move safely and independently by bike and on foot.
In addition to the big Kidical Mass bike demonstrations on the two weekends, there will be school street, play street and bike bus actions during the week. All actions show how streets should be designed today: Namely, so that children can get to school on their own, get some exercise in the fresh air, and have fun.
Demands on politicians: The ABC of safer streets
We know what is needed everywhere to make independent mobility for children the norm again. Therefore, the main demands are:
a) Separation of bicycle and car traffic as far as possible with protected bicycle lanes.
b) A speed limit of 30 km/h on main roads in urban areas up to a speed limit of 20 or 10 km/h in front of schools and day-care centers, as well as
c) School streets without car traffic.
Flora (age 9) from Cologne puts it this way:
“We children want safe routes. We want to feel safe on the way to school or kindergarten. Cars have to drive slower for that!”
Child-friendly road traffic law with wow effect for all
The conference of transport ministers in Germany in spring 2023 also states: A modern road traffic law and a child-friendly traffic infrastructure increase the safety and quality of stay in public spaces for all population groups. We want to remind Federal Transport Minister Wissing, the transport ministers of the federal states and the decision-makers in the municipalities of these basic principles once again. Ultimately, it is not just about routes to school, but about a new normality of mobility on all roads. After all, this ultimately leads to an improvement in the quality of life for everyone! And that’s what we want in all countries, cities and rural regions.
Be part of it! Support our demands and join the Kidical Mass at your place!
Spread the word! Mobilize grandma, grandpa and the whole family!
Worldwide, more than 500 actions with more than 150,000 people have already taken place in May 2023.

We need child and cycle friendly streets. A city must be designed for children. All generations benefit from this. https://t.co/OuN7a8nnt8— Kidical Mass – Kinder aufs Rad (@KinderaufsRad) September 17, 2023
That’s great. So many at KidicalMass. They want change. Paris is already transforming and on a good path. But there’s still a lot to do here, too. A city must be designed for children. All generations benefit from this.@CarlosMorenoFr @Anne_Hidalgo #Schoolstreet #StreetsforKids https://t.co/FJNQDxRADD
